Keyword	A broad search that includes disciplines, topics, and industry as well as terms found in abstracts.
Title	Search for content by its main title (e.g. "Principles of Lasers")
Author Name	Search for content by a particular author or editor (e.g. "Smith")
ISBN	Apply when you know the exact ISBN # of a title you're searching for (this should be a thirteen digit number with no dashes, generally starting with 978)

Provider: (?) Choosing a specific provider will filter the results to only the chosen provider. This can help to reduce the number of results when you know who published the content you are targeting.

Advanced Search Tips

Standard Search

Search terms are separated by spaces and each term is searched independently. Example, a search for gas law would find any results that included either the word gas or the word law

By default, search results are sorted by relevance - defined as the number of term matches out of all terms assigned to a single item.

Phrase search ("")

By putting double quotes around multiple words, you are telling search to consider the exact words in that exact order. For example, a search for "gas law" would find only those results where this phrase appears in this way. Phrase search can sometimes miss important items - like The Law of Gases would not be in these results.

Terms you want to always include (+)

Adding a plus sign immediately before a term indicates that you only want results that contain this word. The plus sign should appear immediately before the word without a space. For example, a search for +gas +law would only include results that contained both words - but would not require they be in any particular order nor that they be in the same phrase.

Terms you want to exclude (-)

Adding a minus sign immediately before a term indicates that you want to exclude any results that contain this word. The minus sign should appear immediately before the word without a space. For example, a search for gas -business would exclude any results that include the term business, regardless of where it appears.
